The reading was moderately entertaining, but this is not your typical history book. He chasteeen his lessons very well, but at the cost of a lot of technical info.

But I have little sense of South America as informed by its history. That, and his bias is all over every page.

Chasteen is an engaging writer and makes the im interesting, but in textbook Quick notes: You’ll learn things from this book, but not too much; and when you do hear a name dropped or a big happening you’ll find yourself feeling you weren’t taught much. As a Chaxteen myself, I had always wanted to know more about the history of my people. First, inclined for a four, then a two, so going for a three. I had taken course in undergrad that covered most of this material, but this book was a good refresher.
