Cold war minimal wavish sounds.

Luke Wg01v Style electrobasses. Not really a fascinating synth to work with, but it does have a number of really useful and musical sounds.

Akai SG01v panel – Ctrlr

Akai has always been top notch. Solid offering of classic drum samples – a la Roland TR, Simmons, and others. No doubt, due to this thread, the value will ‘mysteriously’ start to rise. It was released in the 90’s and has some really convincing analog emulations that seem pretty robust and rich sounding. Beautiful, warm Roland D style electric piano. We seem to be reviving a real sleeper synth here. Electronic M effects processor to “help out a bit”, since the SG01v on-board reverbs are a bit short.

The classic silver acid box – Roland TB I’ve been thinking about getting one of these too, also due to the demos at Synthmania. AKAI must have had some corporate guideline were fun and colors were not allowed — electronic music equipment is a SERIOUS business — lets make it look like drab lab equipment remembering you of horrible nightmares in Hi-school chemistry class! I’ve heard some demos of the former, but I’ve never heard what the latter sounds like.

Were more of these released in Europe, I wonder? Like a sad ugly puppy nobody wanted I decided to pick this up in my never ending adventerous journey for new unexplored sounds….

I just don’t know because I’ve only been aware of this thing for about 30 mins. Advertise on the most comprehensive and akal viewed musicians’ website. Pretty realistic Leslie effect obtained with filter and LFO settings assigned to modulation wheel. The polyphony is 32 notes, and it is channel poly-timbric. Sure the vocoder and talkbox are cool as hell.

Akai Sg01V

Hey, flat earth, yes that is where I heard tha samples, on synthmania. View the Media Kit. I recorded these SG01v demos going through a T. Most are quite good and sound authentic.

Stream all demos below. The Akai may be fantastic, but you may find it as useful as a vocoder or a talkbox. Only thing that seems to be lacking is the number of lead sounds, Minimoog etc, unless i missed something. There was very little akaii could do to tailor the sounds to your needs. There are two on ebay UK I think. Features at a glance.

The cute Korg M monosynth. Interesting, I was akao to this little guy on Paolo’s Synthmania site a couple of weeks back. Outstanding analog synth bass, akau plenty of tamed attack resonance. Like a sad ugly puppy nobody wanted I decided to pick this up in my never ending adventerous journey for new unexplored sounds… The SG01V is the blandest MOST boring looking synthesizer ever: A jollyhappy mishmash of several vintage drummachines like -you can guess- theLinndrum and probably some obscure AKAI boxes.

Very RARE Akai SG01V Vintage Sound Module

For those curious, here’s the link: Sort of like a Roland MT packed to the max with a lot of old synthesizer samples that AKAI probably had lying around anyways in their huge S-series sample libraries. I wish it hadn’t been a half rack sv01v – I hate to admit being so silly, but had it been twice as big I might have taken it more seriously and actually kept it – it’s not like selling it made me rich Some xkai “lead” sounds I find to sound great in the mid or sg01b range, at least with other synths.

It’s nice to see a piece of gear get the credit it deserves whether its in fashion or not. I would be looking for something to pair with a Roland PK-5 midi bass controller and I am hoping to get a John Carpenter “Assault on Precinct 16” bass synth sound out of it.

I see them occasionally in the small ads of local papers. Looks like a fantastic little box though.

I had a similar Roland module at the time, one of those JV-card derived cheapo things that you could get in Vintage Synth, Dance etc. Previous 1 2 Next.

Manufactured in by the Japanese Akai brand this was an early rompler-rack-synth that jumped on the vintagesynthesizer-hype bandwagon. But you can’t use it very often and if you do, it’s too much. I was very wkai with it sg01c I got it and quickly sold it for a huge loss. The filter on this unit is also supposed to be quite good. Mysterious and fascinating synth. And I have noticed that most of the ones I come across for sale are out of Europe or Japan.
